£200 Million Swine Flu Waste

"The swine flu fiasco has cost taxpayers more than £200million for unused drugs, it emerged last night. Surplus jabs cost £128million after the last Labour government bungled the order. And £73million of anti-viral treatments were binned after it emerged they may have been stored wrongly. Normally these pills can be stored and used to treat different flu viruses.

The Department of Health failed to negotiate a clause over unused drugs when buying jabs. But fewer than 500 people died from swine flu and under five million took the jab."
