Britain has denied entry to the head of Syria's National Olympic Committee, but at the same time allowed entry to the head of Bahrain's Olympic committee to travel to London for next month's Olympics Games. General Mowaffak Joumaa is regarded as a close friend of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, whose government is fighting an armed insurgency inside the country.
But, Bahrain’s Prince Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa - the son of king Hamad - is said to have been "personally engaged" in beating, flogging and kicking pro-democracy protestors during peaceful protests against the tiny Persian Gulf island’s system of monarchy.
